ChristophStone Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 Just done a text check on one of the cars I'm looking at, and it has come back as a Cat C write off, repair costs exceed pre-accident value, loss date: 30.07.1998. No record of a VIC inspection. I found this out after going to look at it, owner didn't mention it and I could see no evidence of it at the time, but of course that was to my untrained eyes. It has 12 months MOT and tax, full respray, running gear seems fine. Is it something I should worry about? It's a lot of money is all. Any implications?
Fiesta Steve Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 No worrys and no implications provided its been repaired to a satisfatory standard. Cat C will be something minor, wing, bonnet, bumper etc..
Mad Mex Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 cat c wont be heavy damage, but wipes the value considerably.......... some insurance companies arnt too keen on insuring accident repair cars, either just a thought bud
ChristophStone Posted February 1, 2009 Author Report Posted February 1, 2009 This is i wasn't looking for any sings of repairs when I went up there because i wasn't aware. The o/s door didn't line up properly along the back edge but other than that there was nothing i can think of. I don't know if they guy just doesn't know, or wasn't saying.
D4N Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 My corsa is a cat c write off, got it really cheap cos of it and told the insurance company and didnt effect it at all for me
c4pre Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 just keep in mind that you may have the same problems selling the car on, with buyers worried about it being a Cat C. and then devaluing the car. Get the car checked out.
ChristophStone Posted February 1, 2009 Author Report Posted February 1, 2009 Who can inspect a car for this type of thing? Is it expensive? I don't know anyone personally who can look at it and it's a good 2 hours drive away from home. edit: I'm not planning to sell it on any time soon but if the seller won't lower the price because of it, it does seem like a false economy.
Mad Mex Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 car is worth alot less as damaged repaired mate, if the seller wont come down because of it then mayb time to look for another..... what car is it by the way?.
ChristophStone Posted February 1, 2009 Author Report Posted February 1, 2009 '72 Capri. Haven't talked about it with the seller, like I said I don;t know if he is aware. Waiting for my rents to get home to discuss it with them first. I've already given the seller a deposit on the car to get 12 months test on it because it really does look stunning. I'm just worried that if the damage is what causes the door to not line up properly, then there is some damage to the door or the sill/chassis. edit to add: I looked underneath and couldnt see any damage. If it's tested and has no advisories or anything like that then it doesn't bother me all that much, it's just a big investment is all.
