HoTWire Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 moi! I'd love to know what the Ford scene is like in Finland... the Scandinavian car scene is pretty intense, it seems you are nothing if you don't have 600bhp ! I know Suomi VWs seem to always end up turbo charged It would be cool to know the name of some of the Finnish shows, so we can do some searching for pictures

I know Suomi VWs seem to always end up turbo charged It would be cool to know the name of some of the Finnish shows, so we can do some searching for pictures For my point of a viev the Ford scene here is pretty lame. Law makers have made it very difficult for engine swapping. You can put legaly 20% more powerfull engine on a models top bhp engine. If MK1 Escort RS1600 had 120hp, you can put legaly 144bhp engine on a Escort MK1.. How sad is that? When you have had change vehicle inspection, then you can tune the engine. You can put turbo on Escort MK1 whit 1,6 kent whit small boost (max144hp), and after inspection... Some cars have "old" modifications in the registration book when there were no bhp restrictions in old days.. In Sweden things are better.. We have no Ford shows, just some smaller club meets.. Mainly its just tuning shows or american car shows. You can spot old Euroford in a show if you are lucky.. RS models are very very rare here! If you have Escort Mexico, its rare! I have seen these genuine RS MK1 Escort road cars whit my own eyes: 4 mexicos 1 RS2000 2 RS1600. Most of the RS models that came here have been put around tree for many years ago in rallying. This is what i have experienced..

You say the Finnish classic Ford scene is pretty lame, but we've seen pics of some damn fine cars over in your part of the world, particularly of the Taunus variety. Simon
Ade B Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Very cool way to learn a language! How can the authoroties prove what power a car is putting out? After all for example a Pinto that puts out 120BHP can look externally near identical to one putting out 220BHP! It must cause a lot of people to claim lower power figures than reality.... which is the opposite of what happens in the UK
Tuomas Posted February 19, 2009 Author Report Posted February 19, 2009 Very cool way to learn a language! How can the authoroties prove what power a car is putting out? After all for example a Pinto that puts out 120BHP can look externally near identical to one putting out 220BHP! It must cause a lot of people to claim lower power figures than reality.... which is the opposite of what happens in the UK I try to explain this (dont know does anybody get what im try to say..) For example MK1 Escort: On vehicle inspection they are only interested engines standard BHP. You cant change for example OPEL:s X20XE engine to an MK1 escort because it produce stock 150BHP which is more than 20% BHP compared to RS1600 (most powerful factory MK1 modell) 120BHP+20%=144BHP=max BHP of Escort engine. You can put 220BHP Pinto engine to Escort because Pintos stock BHP is less than 144BHP. Only when you put turbocharger on to an originaly non turbo engine, vehicle inspector want to see rolling road document that says its still under 144BHP. And of cource you have to update brakes to match RS1600, or if you change 1,1 crossflow to 1,6 crossflow brakes=mexico brakes... You must deliver legal Ford doguments to vehicle inspection where they can check engines BHP brake sizes...) You cant just say yes i have changed bigger brakes, you have to prove it...
