I'm looking for a 5 speed Type 9 gearbox for my mk2 Escort (pinto) The one that came with my engine did'nt have seperate bellhousing, and I suppose that's a problem. I know the ones fitted to V6 engines have better ratios but also a different mainshaft. I've found one from a 1.8TD Sierra with low milage, would that fit on my pinto, and how are the ratios in such a diesel gearbox

you need a petrol 2.0 gearbox from a s eirra or the best one is from a late capri 2.0

and its still crap!

i used one from a capri in my car for 3 yrs on the road and at the pod, never let me down  brought a dogs b ollox one from quaife, wrecked the first on at the first meet, the one i have now has been out of the car coz of oil leeks 5 times  the capri box cost me 40 quid the quaife HD box 1600 quid

Diesel capri  no mate petrol  there are a couple of other ratios but this is the common one, so when people say 5 speeds are crap stick with a 4 speed they have the same ratios

its when you get to the top of 2nd, changing into third drops you out of the main powerband (especially on hills) this is annoying!
