vibrating_Cake Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 capri 1600 open diffs on a 5 speed box??? will they be strong enough for my zetec capper??? ideally i want to get the diff and the speedo drive from a type9 to lower the gear ratios down a little, as 0-60mph is gone and i still havent changed to 3rd!!!!!!!! any ideas if they are strong enough, hoping to be running 180-190 ftlb of torque after ive got my new ecu...??? and yes.... open diff
danny69 Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 They are the same as the 2.8 ones with regard to strength, strangely I think the 2.0 ones had thinner shafts. Atlas axles are strong so it should cope if in good condition.
SAF_Capri Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 it will be fine and you can reach 72 mph in second with that diff and box.
jay Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 tbh mate, i dont think you'll bust it, unless you got super sticky tire's on... as i've heard a million time's, it's not power that break's them, it's grip... if it help's, a mate's had a tuned 3.1 essex, and a cossie 300bhp cossie running through 1.6 axle's, and that's drag racing included, and not broken anything...
D4N Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 as i've heard a million time's, it's not power that break's them, it's grip... exactly we snaped to half shafts using these dunlop forest tire's when we had the english in. was first time using them. Never before snaped shafts Were much gripyer.
ASBO CAPRI Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 I had 1600 open diff axle behind a 350 chevy which had at least 350lb/ft. It survived some hard launchs (1.8 second 60ft) on the drag strip too.
