tried to start it and got a horendous sound of crunching metal which got louder and louder and worse sounding. Spoke to those who know about these big V twin rotax motors, and I am 99% sure the starter sprag clutch has failed. Which means £500 of parts plus an engine rebuild as it may be full of metal bits. Or I could find a new engine. To be honest I am thinking of breaking it for spares. :(

i would break it unless you can get a decent used engine for the right money

just bought the gsx1100 powerscreen, so got a good jap reliable bike now.

I got the aprilia quite cheap cos it had been dropped and had a little damage, nothing much just scuffs and scratches. IF the bike had been mint I would have fixed it or got a new engine. But because its not mint, I dont really have any enthusiasm to fix it up or spend more money on it. Still not 100% sure on my decision though, so I am going to think on it till I get back from my may bank holiday away. If I still feel its best to break it, I'll be out with the spanners after then and get it pulled to bits

Before you do anything speak to my mate ........ if it was his own bike i think the totally bill would have been a few quid for some new bolts !!!!
