Can you trace an old car through the DVLA

I want to see if my Grandads old cortina is still out there, its coming up on the DVLA as being taken off the road in 86, is there anyway of getting in contact with the owners if its still around???

The answer is no. You can check on previous owners of a car you already/currently own as long as you can give a good reason, but thats about it...legally.
