Retro-gone. Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 just as a everday runaround for da missus and me, what are the engines like on em?
Retro-gone. Posted May 15, 2009 Author Report Posted May 15, 2009 fook this.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0419729107
Slammed Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 well its a ford and rwd for a start and got tax and mot too semms a decent buy for the moeny tbh
mk1mexico Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Engines are OK, dont expect a world beater and be careful with head gasket failure. Good news is when its run into the ground, the zetec conversion boys will pay strong money for the sump/pick up pipe and gearbox
bigglesmk2 Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 When i wanted a sierra i was told to steer clear of the 1.8 engine coz ther pap go for a 2.0. Look's ok though
Deano1351 Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Engines are OK, dont expect a world beater and be careful with head gasket failure. Good news is when its run into the ground, the zetec conversion boys will pay strong money for the sump/pick up pipe and gearbox What gearbox they got??
Retro-gone. Posted May 15, 2009 Author Report Posted May 15, 2009 i dont expect it to be fast, its for our lass more than me , its cheap and its 6 miles from me , it says it needs a new wing, anyone know if they are still available.?
Deano1351 Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Get her a 1 litre corsa, the money you save on fuel you could get a set of 7.5in 4 spokes and slam the retroglam!!!!!!
Retro-gone. Posted May 15, 2009 Author Report Posted May 15, 2009 ha ha, nice thought but shes tried a small girly car and doesnt like em, she likes big rwd's so who am i to complain
Savvi Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 I know you always think i'm doom and gloom but just an opinion trying to give you benefit of my experience.......................... however ..................... The engines are not the best in those, my ex step dad had 2 as company cars as a rep, both had replacement engines because of ring / head problems and bellowed out smoke and he was retirement age and never drove over 70 mph !!! Having said that the drive is usually nice and they are quiet and comfortable !!! Can see why you like it but i would go for something smaller pref Diesel and save your pennies mate.
Chris! Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 You can still get wings tony but it would probs be better to try and get a white one from a scrappy if you can
mk3cokebottle Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 im with savvi mate , if you want to go down the road of a jellymould dont get the 1.8 , the heads are prone for trouble and they smoke like steam trains on dope if they go wrong ........ on the other hand if you can get one of the 2.0 ones they are pretty good in my opinion i have owned a few and had no trouble with them but i did have alot of trouble with a 1.8 h reg one which beleive or not actually managed to seize a piston up aswell as do the head
Chris! Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Yeah but this is on his doorstep, go for a test drive and if its ok buy it mate
mk3cokebottle Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 here you go buddy cheap needs a bit pf your handy work but nothing you cant handle and its close to you bit further than the sierra but newer and more reliable http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1996-FORD-ESCORT- ... 7C294%3A50
surfingturnip Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 quite partial to the old lunchboxes meself. As said the 2.0 pinto is probs the best to go for though
Retro-gone. Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 thanks for ya input lads, il have a look at the sierra an let you know, she wont have an escort as she had one 2 years ago and hated it, weve had 2 sierras in the past, one pinto and one twincam, she liked em both, shed love another mk5 tina but we cant stretch to that price range. ive got 2 weeks before my redundancy money comes thro so il keep looking round locally.
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 well if its no good engine wise you can put your old 1.6 pinto in it
caprinerd Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 sold one about 7 months back £255 on ebay 1.8 cvh is crap mate you will have the mono point injection system with an in tank pump system every time i had one for the banger track i stuck a 2.0pinto in it, in all seriousness tony if you are seriouse about it change the engine for a pinto but be warned it aint a straight swap as the exhaust fall the wrong side and the fuel pipes need rerouting trying to remember the box i think its an mt75 or simular, but not 100% sure as its been a while since i did anything on them wheels are a 14" and tyres are still very easy to get, i dont really like s13rra`s and always think of them as a doner car for the banger track weak area`s for rust are the rear arches they rot badly and also the front cross members behind the bumper this is structual and will need tobe checked tony hope this helps out a bit
mk1mexico Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 will be a type 9 gearbox, MT75 in the twincams
surfingturnip Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1982-FORD-CORTINA ... 7C294%3A50 45 miles isn't too far....
