scott, you're talking about a grain of sand destroying a fast ship. but this only matters if the material was sent through space as an object, but if you break down the energy that keeps the matter together, record it, and send the energy with the info to "rebuild" it at it's destination, then the sand isn't a problem!!

if you can send the info and energy together faster than moving matter, you're on to a winner

 

but the fastest you can travel is the speed of light... energy or matter, so it wont help with our space travels i'm affraid!

 

however, if you read the link about the reality of a warp drive, they are onto something good! there is also a link about teleportation becoming possible, as they have recorded two joint atoms that are then split being able to commmunicate instantaniously!
