PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Just doing the last minute bits for the escort took her for a nice long drive all good, but then there was a problem with starting her from the key she will not start but if i put the ignition on and bridge from the solinoid she will crank and start but nothing from the key just battery light but there is power getting to the solinoid i rekon starter solinoid is faulty can anyone tell me what they think please!!!! Cause not long til classic ford show and this will be her first time?
