overheating again

ive been through all the usual suspects but when ive cracked it i take it on a long run and it fails spectacually. yesterday we come up to the pod free running traffic was fine till we sat waiting to get on the stand. but on the way home it was hot by the time we got to the crossroads but once moving it was ok kept moving all the way down m1 and m25 till we got to the road works sitting and crawlling the guage ended up a nats fart off the red but we got moving which brought the guage down to half but the amount off heat coming out of the car was unreal to point we stopped at staines for 20/30 minutes with the electric fan continualy running to get the heat out of the engine. any ideas why the engine retains silly amounts off heat like it does when the other 2 didnt have there heaters on they didnt get hot my heater was at full chat and still didnt realy cool it down
