Fitting carpet in a bigger tunnel car

Hi all!

 

Just a quick question, I've fitted a larger gearbox tunnel in my mk2 and I'm going to be fitting carpet soon. Ideally I wanted an auto tunnel/carpet but availability is not great, so my plan is to cut around the standard carpet I have at the base of the tunnel, then find as good a match of carpet as I can, cut to shape and fit over the top. I know this can look good if the cuts/seams are done well, but does anyone have any advise/photos of this been done before?
