HotRodMatt Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 Hi all, Have just come in from fitting a pair of GAZ adjustable rear dampers to the Mk1 and am wondering should I adjust the setting with the car's weight on the suspension or not? Does it matter? Cheers Matt out
james1700 Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 i take mine for a drive and see how i like it! i always start from the softest setting and work up. plus it gives me the excuse to take it for a test run
Fishtailparka Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 Once set, smear the adjuster in grease to stop it siezing.
HotRodMatt Posted June 5, 2009 Author Report Posted June 5, 2009 Good tip about greasing the adjuster there Dave, but does it matter if they are adjusted with the vehicle's weight on the suspension or should there be no compression on the damper at the time of adjustment? Just don't want to mess 'em up! Cheers Matt out
antz Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 put them on and set them to the softest and go for a drive. just up it a bit til you like it
vibrating_Cake Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 yeah put it on softest and give it a go, two clicks up, give it a go, 2 more 2 more, then when its skippy drop it down until it felt at its best. then leave em generally, the rest can be done to preference, i have my fronts softer than the rears as the front springs are stiffer than the rears... just compensates a bit, if anything i'd test drive it, find the best setting, then after about 2 months go back and "bounce" each corner, and stiffen the one that bounces more on either side up to the one that doesnt bounce as much. they do wear/bed in very differently so it seems!
HotRodMatt Posted June 7, 2009 Author Report Posted June 7, 2009 Will defo bounce 'em in a couple of months time, can feel another drive coming on today too... Strictly for testing purposes of course, not for fun! Cheers Matt out
