Mr Sam Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 the sensible car has decided to propper fook up sometimes it starts sometimes it doesnt and its cut out on me in traffic the AA chap recconed its the cranks sensor (if anyone knows where it is on a 1600 zetec) as neither of us could find it anyway its pissed me off bigtime and i dunno if i can be arsed speanding the money on it as it needs a few other bits sorting so for the time being im old skool all teh way
wonderfulweasel Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 I think the crank sensor picks up on the flywheel on the Zetec engine. I'm not sure exactly where the sensor is, but I think it's on the bellhousing somewhere.
Mr Sam Posted June 5, 2009 Author Report Posted June 5, 2009 that would help explain what im thinking is happening, the clutch is starting to spin so would the depris off it be clogging the sensor up?
wonderfulweasel Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 I'm no expert but I guess that could be the case. I think the sensor itself is pretty tough, don't think they're known to fail often. I believe that the gap between the sensor and the flywheel trigger is around 1mm and they work on magnetism. So presumably something could to get in the gap and block/affect the signal. Sorry I can't be of more help.
