dyt397c Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 ........can astandard type 9 5 speed box handle? would 1 be ok behind a 180bhp Pinto with uprated clutch? any help much appreciated
Admin Vista Posted June 17, 2009 Admin Report Posted June 17, 2009 Mine is and has been for a number of years now. The question is, are you talking about a standard type 9 out of a 3 zillion mile taxi or a freshly rebuilt box? Most people that complain about T9's being unreliable have spent loads uprating the engine but chucked on an ancient gearbox without a rebuild and then been surprised when it failed.
mutorcs Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 mines hooked up tp my 3.0ltr not 180bhp i know but it handles bags of torque and it does get some stick Steve.
LEONMEX Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 mine handles 190bhp fine & i have used it for drag racing (high rpm launches on slicks). The only 1 ive had probs with is after a drift day & it had a noisey bearing but on inspection it was because the rear oil seal had been leaking & run low on oil. My mate runs 1 behind his 2.2 ht pinto aswell 200bhp+ & never any probs.
mk1mexico Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 Iv recently upgraded to a SC type 9, but ran a standard one for 3 years, finally putting 177hp/171lb/ft through it for the last 12 months with no problems, i just didnt trust it toward the end
