avago_al Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 My FWD fiberglass loving brother told me earlier that they are too loud for the road is this true?
bigdaz27 Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 there loud cos they fit so bad they keep falling of
petrolhead Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 lol, probably some truth in that Daz. Ashley make sports road exhausts loads of cars pass MOT with them, they are on the loud side though and fit badly imo
avago_al Posted June 21, 2009 Author Report Posted June 21, 2009 I've been out of the scene for a few years mate, thought they might have sorted that problem by now! picked up a full system and manifold froma mates mate for peanuts, so it'll be a temporary thing until the engine swap!
bigdaz27 Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 mine past mot ok there not stuped loud but the fit is very poor
stickerboy Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 I know you lot are being very polite but Ashley exhausts are SH*T. No other way of describing them. No other exhausts fit so badly. My opinion.
bortaf Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 Depends what car it's on TBH, the one me cortina (yeh didn't fit well either) is pretty dam quiet, more like an origional XR3 system, you know a bit raspy not booming and a nice little pop on the overrun, way quieter than the janspeed system i used to run
avago_al Posted June 21, 2009 Author Report Posted June 21, 2009 I had a janspeed on my last escort, mid 90's! i'm only running a 1300 at the moment so a bit of noise will be nice! Just how juicy are 40/45s for day to day use lads?
marky4 Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 the ashley on mine is fine, does blow abit but thats from me grounding it on speed humps it is quite loud, passed mot fine and sounds good
over_head_cam Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 As far as I remember there is no actual db limit on exhausts, but they must not cause disturbance or something like that. Most cheap(ish) systems need a bit of work anyway
Copey Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 they are legal for the road and will pass an MOT, the DB level is for bikes only, not cars, obviosly if its stupidly loud then a tester can fail it, but my PL system is louder than any ashly system i have heard and thats been through a couple of MOTs
CapperTom Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Yes mine had an ashley and passed MOT 3 times with it but as for fitting all i can say is it was almost made to fit my car Tom
Conor Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 My FWD fiberglass loving brother told me earlier that they are too loud for the road is this true? Technically.... a) If its significantly louder than other cars of the same model, it should fail the MOT. If it is more than (OTTOMH) 105db measured at a set distance and angle, it is illegal under construction and use regulations. In reality, as long as is met, most MOT testers don't care and pass it.
stevepeanut Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 got an ashley pipe on my escort, the sound is just nice for me, bit of noise but not too loud, fitment is swank though
fastferretzetecmk1 Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Just collected a landrover V8 ive converted from John, system sounds wicked, fits perfect, I know where in taking my escort to be done, john every time
BIGKEV Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 My Ashley system fitted like a glove ( apart from Filing out one hole) but fook me I think its great
capri71 Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Get a custom stainless system from somwhere wiv a reputation - end of ...might seem pricey but saves you money if you plan on keeping the car.
