fostersice Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 so i got the bit i needed to remove the head bolts from the cosworth head i gone though the way i needed to undo the bolts and have fund two bolts the are rounded off these are0 the star type head bolts does anyone have a tool to remove the bolts or is it a case of drilling the tops off then try and remove the studs once the head it off HELP PLEASE
james1700 Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 i have a set of sockets at work that have a slight reverse thread in them. basically you hammer the socket on and as your turn it grips the bolt and will spin it out i think these are avaliable from the likes of screw fix and machine mart not snap on etc but they will be good enough for the job you need to do james
james1700 Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 like these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IRWIN-BOLT-GRIP-5 ... 7C294%3A50 im sure machine mart do them and will be open in the morning
lee 1 Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 Don't think they will work on a head bolt could be wrong though. I would just drill the head off the rounded ones once the tension is off them you will probably find you can undo them by hand.
Fishtailparka Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 If you drill the heads off you will then be able to get the head off. The ones still in there will be sticking out of the block enough to get some grips on them. As said, they will probably come out very easily once you can get at them.
Seals2 Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 i use an extractor kit when this happens all u need to do is use the biggest bit in the kit. the way it works is u drill the centre of the bolt down about 15mm the insert theses bit and they grip as u undo the bolt. these are them: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/5PCE-DAMAGED-BOLT ... 1|294%3A50
Fishtailparka Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 Whenever i use them they always seem to snap. Then you are completely fecked as they are made out of stuff that is even harder than dried Weetabix. Impossible to drill out after that.
james1700 Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 only problem with an easy out is if they snap you have no hope of drilling it out. thos sockets will do the job no problem
Seals2 Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 ive neva snap the 9mm one on a head bolt or when getting the rest of a snapped spark plug.
