Question for the management

I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice! My little cousin wants to be a photographer for a car magazine, and was wondering what he would have to do to be able to do this? He is 15 and quite rudder-less

As he's still young, he might as well do a qualification - you can do an NVQ in photography these days. Even though only about half of the photographers we use have formal qualifications in photography, every feather he has in his cap will help open doors.

 

He also needs to do as much work experience as possible on different magazines, as the style varies massively - just compare the type of shots we use with those of say Car magazine, for example. We'd be more than happy to give him some, but not until he's 18.

 

Also, drag him along to as many car shows as you can and get him snapoing, so that he can post the pics up on here, and also photo sharing sites like Flickr. Again, like that Jane Horrocks says on the Tesco telly ad, 'Every little helps'.

Photography is a very cut throat business!

 

Tell him, if he's serious to get a decent portfolio together with decent pictures & get him to look at local colleges for when he leaves school.

 

There he could do NQ, HNC/HND & then Degree.

 

I was told by a photographer friend not to get involved in photography as it's a dying profession as with the introduction of digital, every person & their dog can operate a camera & produce good photographs.

If only that were true, then we wouldn't have to pay out a king's ransom in photography fees.

On the day that i had my photo-shoot, I found the photo bloke to be well switched on and had some very good ideas for pics he wanted, and had to adapt to the conditions, the quality of the pics could only be done by a pro,

 

 

As for the bloke doing the write up..........less said the better

I've done over 2000 Weddings and i don't find them boring ,Not at £2000 a time ...........and you get to see some fine ladies dressed up to the nines

i can honestly say i would do it for nothing as the adrenaline rush i get is brill

i remember when CF mag did a feature on our club, John Hill was the photgrapher, i never realised how much goes into a photo shoot, the guy is a legend

Stephen Dodd did the shoot for my car and the stuff that guy carted around in his van ,all the studio lights and power packs, I like to travel light .

Sadly Steve is no longer with us but not forgotten
