paul capri Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Just had this dropped off by a mate, its 2.0 silvertop out of a 70'000 mile mundane-o ghia that was rear ended. It has everything left on it, including auto-matic gearbox, air-con pump, powersteering pump, injection system, loom, driveshafts, even the manifold and CAT are still on it!! Only going to need the bare engine for use in the capri but surely ill be able to make the most of the £170 i bought it for back wouldn't you think?
paul capri Posted August 12, 2009 Author Report Posted August 12, 2009 i know going to take me a fair while to get it sorted though
mk1mexico Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Strong money that in my opinion. Be careful with the Auto engines, theres something different with the crank sensor. Just cant remember what at the moment.
emu Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 The mounting is different I had an auto engine that was going to put in my escort years ago, the sensor sits in a round plastic mounting, the auto one is different to the manual one IIRC. but you can swap them easy enough
escortmatt Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 your get £40 back for the cat so £130 a bargain put the auto box on that auction site
paul capri Posted August 13, 2009 Author Report Posted August 13, 2009 Got home after being out with mates at 12.30, went on here 'til 1.30 then decided to strip the zetec down.. its now 3.30 Couldn't use any airtools (compressor is abit antisocial) and tried hard not to scream and start swearing when i tw@ted my fingers after breaking a bolt loose on the bell housing.... but its done now. Should probably go to bed got to be up at 7
vibrating_Cake Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 big money for a 70k engine dude scrappers can get a head and bottom end for bwt 70-100 quid no real use for the standard injection etc unless ur buying expensive ecu's n crap.... ohhh.... i may just butt in here.... i have an ECU for sale to run that engine on twin 45 carbies (upps it to~170bhp figure)..... its going cheap if ur interested its currently sat on top of my wardrobe mine made 173bhp on it EDIT@ keep the coilpack and its mount! and keep all the standard sensors (crank position sensor etc) where you located? may aswel whip the timing belt off and change that while its out of the car
paul capri Posted August 13, 2009 Author Report Posted August 13, 2009 big money really? O wel im happy, its all there and it was delivered to my door, better than saving a few quid and not actually knowing the engines history. Plus I've got shit loads of bits to sell im sure ill make money back. I wanted to do 45s mate but dont want to have to go to the hassle and expense of fitting a bias pedal box, especially since I've only just finished getting all the parts together for the caprisport 280 kit. There was a company at ford fair called chesterfield sports cars that do a bike carb kit which includes a mapable ECU and coil pack for the zetec and it can be used with the original brake set up He claimed that this engine was 170bhp at the flywheel at 6500rpm, and apart from the carbs, (obviously) its all fully standard. On mine I'm intending to get the ports opened out, match the head to the inlet manifold, get it skimmed with a set of higher lift cams should be about 220. Im in Dorset, would love to see you're car and get you to take me out in it to see what I can expect
vibrating_Cake Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 expect mad stuff haha. and expect to use lots of tyres... unless u buy good ens!
supersport Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 if you need a hand fitting it let me know. you will need to change the flywheel for a manual one aswell as the cps.
escortmatt Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 i know when u fit the zetec in the escort you got to change the sump dont know about capri though 1.8 cvh sump goes on but your have to redrill the holes on the sump
