Mick The Cabbie Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Any one had and experience of these? They are approx half the price of a plate slipper.. Apparently, when not under load both wheels are free like an open diff. As soon as a degree of slip is detected the diff locks. I gather that this happens quite abruptly & similar to the way a dog box engages gear Surely if thats true and I give it a bootfull mid corner, I'd be launched straight into the nearest hedge. Someone we know has used one in his Legend (scale size roundyround Ford Pop replica) with no probs.. I'm considering one for road & 1/4 mile use. A mate is considering one for his F2 stock car Experiences & thoughts pleeeeeeeze
V8ian Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 As far as I remember a spool is just a ring gear carrier,, has bearings either end and splines to take the half shafts, a lot lighter than a diff, or lsd, but is exactly the same as a welded diff, no potential for the wheels to slip going into a bend, I have only ever seen them on purpose built drag cars. follow the link to summit racing, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G7811/
