im too young to remember all this old people stuff

 

here u go mate,it all started here

 

i remember ours, to load games you used a cassette player and waited 30 mins for it to load the most basic game only for an error to come up at the end of loading

Question is, Jimbob, if you're having to set up an old pc to get stuff off your floppies, you can't have used them in a long time, which means there's nothing on there that you need.

 

If you don't use it for a couple of years, you don't need it. That's my new motto as I've been accused of being a horder.

 

I know what your saying mate. Believe me, I have had some major clear out's in the past, but when it comes to my old software and certain computers, I just can't do it.

 

All I had to do was fit an old floppy drive to my new PC, but I have 2 old ones for the software to work on, but over Xmas, I managed to get one 21 year old PC to talk and link up to my new one.

 

Also, let's face it, if everyone was to throw everything out, there would be nothing left to look back on and see how things have progressed. I do love my computers, perhaps a bit too much, but, I have been using them since I was 3, which was 24 years ago

 

The way I look at it, a couple of old floppy drives and a few boxes of floppy disks don't take up alot of room, whereas near enough 20 computers does. That's why I now only have 6 computers (2 of them laptops) and lots of disks

 

Sounds like you know quite a bit about computer programming, I peaked at altering program text in Flight Simulator for the spectrum (How boring was that?)

 

I figured out how to alter the message "You have succesfully landed the plane" to something along the lines of " Great landing, kick your brothers nads as reward!" (I was only 12 ) I thought it was hilarious, but funnily enough, he didn't.

I had a bussiness on ebay, i had a sonic 1 catridge i got for 50p and sold it for £20 fluke

Noone has mentioned my first computer, a Sinclair ZX81, 1K memory with a 16k RAM pack that plugged in the back and was held onto the computer with velcro. Every time the RAM pack moved, the computer crashed!! Wasn'tcalled a wobbly rampack for nothing!! I never ever got a game to load off tape, always had to type in listings out of magazines, ffs. What was I thinking!! lol

I worked in IT and I never even saw Windows V1 running. It started with V3.11 with me.

 

Interesting fact. I read yesterday that Bill Gates originally wrote Excel for the Mac.
