mez Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 hi all, I'm about to attempt my first oil change on my mk1 escort with Xflow. I've got some classic car oil 20w 50. Do you think this will be ok to use? P.s any tips or do's and don'ts?
mart @ fpe Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 yeah that oil will be fine just remember to change the oil filter and the fiber washer on the sump plug and dont overfill it with oil put it in slowly if your unsure and keep checking the dipstick it may take a minite to work its ways down the engine before it will give a correct reading on the dipstick
moredoorAsh Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 As above and also make sure the oil filter u take off has it rubber ring still in it, you don't want it stuck on ur engine. Also wen u first start the car after re-filling it with oil, don't rev it and wait for the oil light to go out, then stop engine and re-check ur oil level, the oil filter should now also be full Oh and if you take the filter off or have the filler cap off the oil will flow out much quicker...just to warn u
MM77 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 And do it as hot as possible to avoid retaining any nasties.
Stu_B Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 I always fill the filter up before I screw it on.
flyingbanana Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 smear a bit of oil on top of the oil filter seal before putting on and only do upto hand tight
