antz Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 need a new daily driver folks but have no idea what i want. my trouble is i want something fast, turbo powered and something i can insure at the age of 21 for less than £1k with 0 no claims bonus (new policy so i cant use my no claims on it) budget of 2-3k. Dont want anything old (no older than 1997!) Nothing french Nothing small (no hot hatches) was thinking volvo v40 t4, nissan stagea etc etc
V6MAT Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 ill have a think, was gonna suggest a few but theyd be classed as hot hatches

antz Posted January 2, 2010 Author Report Posted January 2, 2010 Volvo 850 T5 serves me proudly Dunno about insurance though as I've got traders' cover. Yeh it's turbo, but it's a Volvo too, so can't be that bad! inssurance is about £1100 for me on a T5. its because ive been driving under my dads name for 3 years and decided i want my own policy so gotta start fresh
mk1mexico Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Its old but a nice Granada Ghia would suit you mate

GT_lenny Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 bimmer 320, or a 200sx-- keep it rwd or better yet a capri or mk2 granadadadada on a classic policy (cheapness plus you'd be keeping it OSF
GJUK Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 need a new daily driver folks but have no idea what i want. my trouble is i want something fast, turbo powered and something i can insure at the age of 21 for less than £1k with 0 no claims bonus (new policy so i cant use my no claims on it) budget of 2-3k. Dont want anything old (no older than 1997!) Nothing french Nothing small (no hot hatches) was thinking volvo v40 t4, nissan stagea etc etc Can I be pedantic. This is how I see it. need a new daily driver So I take this as being, reliable, cheap to run, safe and semi comfy. i want something fast, turbo powered This means you want speed, turbo powered cars, unless you go for a diesel are not that great on fuel. Contradicting the 'cheap to run' I would say every budget daily driver should be. something i can insure at the age of 21 for less than £1k with 0 no claims bonus So from this I would suggest something cheap in value, slow and low on the old insurance groups. I would list your requirements in a 1-10 kind of fashion. For example I had a Vauxhall Omega MV6 when I was 19. It was a 3 litre V6, comfy, leather and less than a grand to insure. It drank fuel though and when things broke, it was expensive to fix. You need to decide what is most important to you. Best, Jon
moredoorAsh Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 What about a late E36 BM 328i. I know its not a turbo.........but........ .........A saloon or tourer should be cheaper to insure then a coupe and they put out 197 bhp standard............and fly
m1c Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 saab 9000 Aero i had an anniversary model, basically a low pressure turbo of the Aero. was well comfy, had all mod cons etc.... the Aero has a bigger turbo and is around 225 bhp if i recall. bit juicy as a 2.3 but cheap insurance etc and the car wont be that much.
Savvi Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Classic insurance ? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1988-FORD-ESCORT- ... 3a563bca35 I've had 2 of these and they go well and cheap to run: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1998-R-Regd-ROVER ... 2304a3288a http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1999-VOLVO-S70-SE ... 255815eb78 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1992-TOYOTA-MR2-T ... 2a03a343de Saab with nice wheels: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1999-SAAB-9-3-93- ... 3efb79cb45 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2001-VOLKSWAGEN-P ... 3358cd18bd

mk1mexico Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 When i turned 20 Antz i had an ST24 Mundaneo and loved it, theyre being given away now, and are quick enough. Comfy, go anywhere, big enough, insurable just not a turbo. Probably have 1k left of your budget to spoil the escort
retrorigg Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 my daily driver is a gsxi bluebird, get a turbo bluebird, very refined, lots of goodys , reliable as fook, quick, cheap, strong, look ok, good forums and club following,
antz Posted January 3, 2010 Author Report Posted January 3, 2010 nothing old! been there done that, rotted a car, didnt enjoy it and i like a heater that works. old means rust, aging electronics, high maintenance, high milage, very well used. I dont want that. daily driver to me means something i can drive daily. all year round without worry of rust. doesnt have to be cheap to run, dont want anything slow, must be comfy, definately not diesel. Under 100k miles. Im currently running a Volvo 240 estate! so you can kinda understand the path im thinking of.
