Redex R Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 As the title says , I'm curious as upon further investigation the boss fits a Mk2 Cortina (and Mk1 ?) splines perfectly and the boss is also the right length for a series one car. Is this an aftermarket 60s accesory as its slightly smaller than an E wheel but it's definitely not the Mountney accesory wheel that I'm familiar with , I'm thinking of restoring this as it looks like the original 1600E wheel only smaller but the difference is in the actual boss as the Cortina centre badge has a lot bigger fitting , also there is a hole in the base.
Nicks53 Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 I couldn't tell you any further info about this (unfortunately) but my Series 1 MKII Cortina has one of these fitted. Could be that it's an aftermarket that was popular at the time?
Redex R Posted January 25, 2010 Author Report Posted January 25, 2010 Current school of thought is that it's an Astrali , not one I was familiar with before (I remember the tiny shirt button type Astrali) also popular on MGBs etc in their day I believe . I like that car of yours , nice colour !
Sheepy Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 I have an Astrali wheel tucked away in the garage, will dig it out this week/weekend and take a piccy of it, and if memory serves me correct, i think it same colour as yours also! will check.
Nicks53 Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 I like that car of yours , nice colour ! Snap! isn't yours the same?
Redex R Posted January 30, 2010 Author Report Posted January 30, 2010 Yes , Dragoon red or Dragon red by some peoples typos ! Mk1 Corty Anglia and Corsair as well as early Mk2s.
Sheepy Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 i hunted in all my stuff for the wheels, sods law, the last box i looked in i found them, and even more of a suprise for me, i had 2 of them! cant remember having a second! anyway, they look identical to yours, but if your's is an astrali it will be stamped on the back of one of the spokes, and at the top of the centre ring also on the rear, will be stamped the model number! hope this helps, i forgot how good they feel, now what shall i fit them to!!!
