JAY PS Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 So youve had a crash or someone has hit your car . Well if your insured with Aviva you no longer have a choice where your van will be fixed They now insist that their approved repairer does repairs and that way you will only pay half your excess and if you still want your local bodyshop to do repairs the they will inspect the vehicle in the normal way and then send you a cheque ! Which you can gurantee waont arrive before repairs as complete . Also if the garage find anymore damage ,tough This is in my view as a bodyshop manager not a good deal for the customer Why should they choose where the car goes ? This isnt sour grapes at all ,i just think you guys should be aware of this as weve had several people who have been left by the insurance company to sort themselves out !
stevie Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Good to know this before you take any cover out with them. Well done for pointing it out. I find them damned expensive anyway. I know its somethimes about quality of cover but they still work out dear for me.
livewire7116 Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 things is they use these "Recommended repairers" cos they screw them down to stupidly cheap hourly rates and fixed price repair contracts, so you just know your car is going to be as quick and cheap as possible and reuse more of the original parts to cut down on thiers costs and keep in a profit margin for the repair, i used to work for Silvershield Windscreens years ago and they had one of these deals with the LLOYDS syndicate where they paid £115 for every job from a mk3 fiesta screen which cost about £20 to a top of the range Heated windscreen for a Range Rover costing nearly £300 so a £185 loss was made. So the moral of the story is "BUY CHEAP AT YOUR PERIL" you may save £200 on your premium but when you bang it you can be sure it may look good when you get it back but if you look deep corners have be cut, No offense to the guys who do this work for a living as they are only doing what the insurance company insists on, Ive spent years working in and out of bodyshops and seen it where extra damage has been imposed on the car after the accident just to make it beyond economical repair so they wont lose money on a job
JAY PS Posted February 2, 2010 Author Report Posted February 2, 2010 In this case the insurance company OWNs its own repairers and i used to work for them many years back ,yes your right corners were cut and my job was once in qc and 80% of what we did went back into the workshop and was told to let 40 % go because it was acceptable !
livewire7116 Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 its one of the reasons i got out of the motor trade as its not about it being done right anymore its about costs, i used to treat customers cars like my own and think to myself "Would i accept it on my car"?
stevie Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 its one of the reasons i got out of the motor trade as its not about it being done right anymore its about costs, i used to treat customers cars like my own and think to myself "Would i accept it on my car"? Thats why my valeting business wasnt making much. I never cut any corners and made sure the cars went out only when i was 100% happy. I had loads of custom but i couldnt make enough money. Ended up subbing myself out to do removals during the day and ran my valeting at night. God was i tired.... Good on you though mate, not many people are like that these days.
Grizzley Dell Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 i got wacked just before xmas. they told me to take it to there repairers. told them hairy spheres im in the trade and will take it to the bodyshop i normaly use, didnt like it but had to agree to it as its not my insurance company, its his.
