I know there is always debate about pintos and x flows, was thinkin just to upgrade the mk1 escort to a 1600 x flow, just don't know if it will be under powered. It would be easier than puttin a pinto in, not going to spend a fortune was thinkin like a 244 cam webers 421 manifold Ashley 2" system 1300 pistons and get head porter and polished, and will prob get a diff sorted, not going to spend a fortune on diffs and a gearbox. . Anyone running anything similar or know rough 0-60 times top speed, bhp and what ats like to drive. . I know it depends alot on the diff and box but even a rough idea would be good to reasure me I shouldn't get a pinto! [/img]

My engine was similar spec, 244 / 1300 pistons / webers / etc.. Lets just say it embarrassed a few Skyline's/Evo's/Scooby's etc.. it had 153bhp and ran 13.8 on the 1/4 mile with 175 road tyres  If thats what you call under powered then you better go Pinto  (and I'll see you at the lights  )

feck 153 is more than i woulda thought, and keeping it well stripped out its bound to have a good power to weight ratio!! and i guess thats without spending stupid money on steel crank and forged pistons etc....

i have a standard 1600 with a twin choke webber. and its pretty quick, don't take long to get above 60mph,

the gearing of the car can give goot accleration or hight top speed,

i have a 4.1 diff in mine and revs are high on the motorway but it quick off the mark,.

if you tune it up, you wont be dissapointed

I have a Bridge built crossflow 1660 and it doesn't hang about!

ooohhh sounds expensive mate

either can be built well on a budget,my old pinto made 185bhp with cast pistons & a nice head. The x-flow build in jamies anglia i done is stock internals apart from cam & head work & made good power with alot more to come. Your choice mate really
