5hane Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 Ok so spent a few hours getting the 1300 lump in the 4 door, and the gearbox mount is maby 4/5 inches from the tunnel mounts. The engine and box are out of a 1300e. Just wondering, if i fit the box out of the harrier, will that line up with the holes ?? (Auto shell) Also the prop i was gonna use (off the harrier) wont fit the splines as its too big, But if i use a mk1 prop (which i will have to source..) iirc the diff flange is smaller? Some one must have done a manual converson on a mk2 ghia so to conclude (and help any confusion) mk2 auto shell, 1300 engine and gear box out of a mk1 - in currently got a prop and gearbox out of mk2 (1600 box shouldnt matter will it?) (2 peice prop from me harrier) mk2 large flange axel Ta,
5hane Posted April 4, 2010 Author Report Posted April 4, 2010 fook knows, get on COD i would lmao, but me copys at me mates !! (allways the way !) i proably suck now anyway
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 i think type 9 box and rs2000 prop is what you need stevepeanut did a mk2 escort from auto to manual
moredoorAsh Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Mine started off its life as an auto and is now a manual, which was already done when i bought it. Just had a look at the 2 piece prop i've taken off and it has 16 teeth on the gearbox end and the dif end has 90mm from centre of the bolt holes diagonally accross from each other, this is for an English axle....i know some autos were fitted with the baby atlas axle, think the flange is bigger on these. Hope this help some how

5hane Posted April 5, 2010 Author Report Posted April 5, 2010 Whilst im here, is it ok to fill up a gearbox from the leaver opening ? or have it GOT to use the grub screw on the side (when we put the engine / box in all the gearbox oil pissed out ) which ive been told, and looks to be a pain in the ass Ta,

Toby Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 ...have I GOT to use the grub screw on the side? Ta, Yes - ok
5hane Posted April 6, 2010 Author Report Posted April 6, 2010 Yes - ok Are you being serious or taking the piss i REALLY dont feel like being covered in gearbox oil
5hane Posted April 6, 2010 Author Report Posted April 6, 2010 No worries mate, i'll be with mine tomorrow so i'll have a look at the box mount and get a few pics for ya Ta mate that would be great
5hane Posted April 6, 2010 Author Report Posted April 6, 2010 picture tells a 1000 words.. Sure this is a mk1 mount, you can see the problem auto mounts i have - they fit spot on
livewire7116 Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 if auto mount lines up then use it, if not bolt it to the box and drill thru floor and nut and bolt it
Stu_B Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 I always fill my gearbox up from the top (lever hole) just leave the plug out so you know when you've filled it... you will always put too much oil in this way so I just leave it to drain out the filler hole till its at the correct level. As for crossmembers I have the same problem with my Anglia... the previous owner cut the centre out of the crosmember so the mount could be bolted in the correct position but still use the original mounting points, I've since modified it again by slotting the holes cos the 2000e mount was even further back... total bodge being replaced with a Milton one soon.
Toby Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Stu I'm suprised you can fill the box through the gear lever hole as there is supposed to be a seal which the selector shaft slides through. (Well there are in Type E and Type 9 boxes.) Anyway - if you're underneath taking the plug out you can't you fill it whilst you're there?
Stu_B Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Yeah I was going to do it the proper way then something was getting in the way? Exhaust, gravity, lazyness.. I can't quite remember. This is with a 2000e box.

This is with a 2000e box. Perhaps the tunnel is more roomy on the Cortina and maybe they didn't put seals in the earlier boxes
w p e Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 its possible to fill all 2000e box's through the stick hole
5hane Posted April 7, 2010 Author Report Posted April 7, 2010 Cheers for the replies Ok i think im going to have to modify the auto mount then, extend it somhow, Might have to drill new holes aswell, ill have a look over the weekend - not to worried about how it looks as its gonna be a daily As for gearbox, Ill put a bit in the top, and pray it drains into the main case, its not a 2000e box though (tbh i dont have a clue what it is, just a 1300gt lump/ box, apparently from a mk1) Thanks all
james1700 Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 the 4 speed escort box you do need to fill from underneath im afraid. and your auto tunnel is wider than a manual tunnel, and the mount is moved further back. the type 9 will bolt straight in with the auto mount or your going to have to bodge the mount through the floor to fit the 4 speed. incidentally you dont want to get rid of your auto prop do you? cheers james
5hane Posted April 7, 2010 Author Report Posted April 7, 2010 I'd fill it up the proper way. i suppose you are right really Yeah i was thinking of going 5 speed as its a daily, but ive been told it will be gutless. Ill have another play over the weekend Think me dad wants the auto prop, but ill get back to you
moredoorAsh Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 Here are a couple of pics of my box out and bolted up in I don't know what the mount is but it looks different form your 2. Hope this is some help
