Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 they used to make a bigger bmx slightly bigger frame and wheels than the standard popular models such as tuff burner night burner raleigh burner etc any one know what these bigger ones were called i think raleigh made them
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 yes, they are a blast to ride whats the frame size ?
dannyb Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 sorry i dont know the sizes, but if i put my 20" next to my 24" the 24 is bigger (longer)
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 you got one of each any pics of them side by side ?
zac.gfc Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 sorry i dont know the sizes, but if i put my 20" next to my 24"the 24 is bigger (longer) Measure between the middle of the headtube and seatpost gives you the top tube size
Stu_B Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 I think they're about the same length as a BMX frame. I looked one up & it had a 21.5" top tube which is about an inch longer than my BMX frame.
dannyb Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 my old skool 20" bmx has a top tube of 18" and the 24" has a top tube 22". sorry, no pictures of them side by side.
Stu_B Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 18" is it a flatland bike?! That's really short.
dannyb Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 '85 dp freestyler, think it was just 1 bmx that did it all back then?
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 thats nice i just interested in buying a bmx but not sure how much of a tit id look on a small bike thats why i want to know the size of the bigger ones though i understand they are rare
dannyb Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 i'm 5tf 10 and it's a squeeze riding the 20" you need to get to a bike shop and sit on a few.
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 i'm 5tf 10 and it's a squeeze riding the 20" you need to get to a bike shop and sit on a few. hmm now that could be taken the wrong way im 5ft 10 i think but got short legs (always have to buy short inside leg trousers anyway )
Stu_B Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 Those old skool bmx's are tiny though, the proportions are all weird. My mate has a raleigh burner & it's nothing like my modern BMX.
silverstreak Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 yeah but twice as tough if its proper 80s burner
Stu_B Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 Errr I don't think a raleigh burner would last 10 minutes if I took it to a skatepark
zac.gfc Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 They wouldn't last anywhere near 10mins in a skatepark Frame would just snap so easily over a few hips
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 Those old skool bmx's are tiny though, the proportions are all weird. My mate has a raleigh burner & it's nothing like my modern BMX.[/quote so you saying a newr modle would be better any suggestions stu would be great also mods like those bent back seat posts etc ( just to make it look and feel more like it suits a 5ft 10 grown man )
emu Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 Those old skool bmx's are tiny though, the proportions are all weird. My mate has a raleigh burner & it's nothing like my modern BMX. I think you will find its the modern stuff thats all weird looking
