I've rolled my arches on my escort but used a hammer. I understand that using a round solid bar applied between the wheel and the arch (while rolling the car forwards) is the way to do it. It has to be a bar that is too tight a fit between the unrolled arch and tyre - effectively you are making the gap between tyre and arch bigger by trapping the bar between the two - the rolling weight of the car is used to overcome the resistance to bending of the arch.

Hope this helps?

use an arch roller.

they fix to the cars hub and have a big Poly wheel on the which pushes the lip upwards and flattens it without damaging your paint

I used a hammer and angle grinder

It didn't damage the paint either, did it just before Classic Ford as i found the wheels hit on full lock when i took it for MOT.

did u just cut the lip in sections and fold them up?

I cut a peice at each end of the section i needed to roll, then gently using the ball pane part of the hammer tapped it in between the cuts until it was folded all the way back on itself & flat.

I tended to use sharp swift swings of the hammer, my mate thought i was mad when he watch me

I'm sure there's a proper Old Skool garage that will have an arch roller .... I will move this post to Old Skool Chat as your location is south London area and there are loads of the "old boys" in that area :thumbsup:

I used an old jack handle between the tyre & the arch & got someone to roll the car back & forward. It did flake off the paint though. Apparently if you warm the paint first with a heat gun you get better results

Oh & watch out for filler

Did my front arches with this:

Only took a morning to make, cost nothing, already had the bits. And heating the paint to stop it cracking deffinately works.

Struggling with the rears though as they are double skinned.
