Safety Devices Roll Cage mounting plates question

Hi all,

 

I've just bought a Safety Devices Full roll cage for my mk1 escort.

 

It came with plates for use with the cage.

 

It seems obvious that the middle hoop plates are shaped to be welded inside of the car.

 

The front and rear plates are the same size of the feet however. Are these welded inside the car also?

 

Is there any benefit to using larger plates (for MSA regs) etc?

the larger the base mounting plate you use the safer it should be as you would be spreading the load area if you ever had a roll/accident in it imo

Check RACMSA blue book for info regarding plates, that book is the bible when it comes to preparing cars for any kind of motorsport, or the alternative is to contact a local motor club and ask them who thier MSA scutineer is, if i remember rightly the names might even be listed in the blue book

These are the plates that the roll cage feet mount onto. The minimum mounting plate area for the main and front roll cage mountings are 120cm2. The mounting plates when welded inside the vehicle must make contact with the floor and the inner sill, this takes the shape of the letter L. The rear backstays minimum area of at least 60cm2. The minimum thickness is 3mm. They must be welded to the body shell as per (Drawing15 - 18. Pg 176/177. Plates must be secured with continuos good quality welds.

 

Can anyone confirm this is correct please?
