michael_200 Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 just bought a pinto for my escort! was toying with what to put in and this came up and couldnt refuse! ready to bold in! any threads in here to tell me what needs changed or to watch out for, its just currently running standard 1300 x flow and 4 speed gear box! was hunting through my old classic fords as i remember it give you a guide, but think its been chucked out! cheers lads
bomber1 Posted June 30, 2010 Report Posted June 30, 2010 what gear box are u going to use? x-flow box will bolt straight on but will need a mix of x-flow/pinto clutch parts which places like retroford sell. if ur going to use a pinto box then tunnel and box mounts will need to be modified. basics for the engine are exshaust/electrics and fuel are all on the oppersite side to the x-flow. life is easier if you get a full set of ally parts for the engine ie sump, bellhousing, engine mounts and alternator bracket. this is a costly way to do it as these parts are dear to buy either new or second hand. if ur good with a welder you can modify the tin sump. the steel bellhousing will do fine tho heavy. and steel engine mounts with rubbers will set u back about £30 irc from rally design.
bomber1 Posted June 30, 2010 Report Posted June 30, 2010 the alternator bracket i doubt u will need as it drops the alt low enough to fit under the servo but i pressume yours is a lhd car so thats not an issue
michael_200 Posted June 30, 2010 Author Report Posted June 30, 2010 yeah handy enough with the welder!mines rhd, but just hearng from some people there talking thousands for this swap, but really all you should need is engine mounts from rally designs? and a bit or swapping and sorting things out, think i will run with the standard 4 speed x flow gear box thats in it unless i can get a 5 speed somewhere! whats that company retro ford would you have a contact for them? cheers
emu Posted June 30, 2010 Report Posted June 30, 2010 Of all the essential, must have, pinto-into-escort parts that are available, all I used was the engine mounts. Sierra sump was modified with a hammer, Alernator is still on sierra mount and the bell housing is cast iron type 9 unit.
michael_200 Posted June 30, 2010 Author Report Posted June 30, 2010 happy days doesnt sound too bad rally then!
bomber1 Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 as emu said realy u can blow big money or do it on a budget. i just think people get obsesed with all the ally parts which are now comanding big money. when i first pinto'd my mk1 i just used a ally sump steel bellhousing and steel engine mounts from rally design. its retro ford in corby? the guy that does zetec/duratec conversions
shaun1.6ghia Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 I didn't know you need a alternator conversion for running a pinto with a servo... doing this swap later on in the year... what budget ignition can be used as i don't have a ignition for my pinto.
