xpackken Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 PLEASE IGNORE THE POLL , I EDITED THE WRONG POST . FIX IT PLEASE MODS Hey guys , can some please explain in simple terms (electrics newbi) how a modern engine is wired into an osf ! Engine to be exact is a 200sx 1.8 turbo , my uynderstanding of my current loom is ignition+battery+starter+coil+dizzy= brumm brum ! I have someone that is going to make/modify a sx loom for me and has said they will cut out all the unwanted stuff ! But am still confused , will I then effectively have 2 looms in the car ? And will I just use the wires on my current loom to starter and alternator with the new engines connections on there ? What is the starting circuit ignition+battery+starter+ecu+?+?+???? how is the ecu powered ? Straight from battery or starter ? Then does everything plug into that ? I did say I am a newbi and not got a clue with car electrics ! Crinnngggeee if I don't ask thou I will end up scaring myself away and doing a carbd engine converstion
Savvi Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 Best thing is to ask the guy doing the loom for you. People do this different ways, some put an additional loom alongside the old one, some people make a complete new loom and some make one loom out of the two. Personally i'm intending to make a loom out of the 2 when i eventually fit my zetec, on that i need to feed the fuel pump, ecu, dizzy and injectors and the engine sensors, i'm guessing yours would be similar. In term of it being safe etc as long as fuses and relays are fitted where needed then either option should be fine
xpackken Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 Umm , I see now , but still not sure about we're it powers from witch loom powers what maybe I should just ask a pro to wire it in as am clueless do u think any decent autospark could do it ?
Savvi Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 Again it depends on who does the loom, if your guy does a separate loom then he should fit the relays and fuses needed. I do auto electrics for a living and often do this type of work, so yes most sparky's should do it ok for you. I'm too far for you, but i know there's a couple more on here that may be closer ? Make sure you use someone who has an interest in this type of work or another memember on here might have done it before themselves, a good Diy'er could do the job i'm sure

supersport Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 have you got a complete car? or just an engine, gearbox and loom? if it was a zetec on standard injection it would only be 3/4 wires that would need to be joined to the existing loom.
xpackken Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 I think i will be buying a donor ! just depends what comes up 1st
Mick The Cabbie Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 Example, Cossie engines run a self contained dedicated engine loom incl the ECU. There are just four wires to conect it to any vehicle, live, earth, fuel pump & rev counter (I think thats all correct) ..and then some other engine looms are plumbed deep into their main car looms. Not really answered ya question but they are the two possible extremes. I hope with the 200SX lump you have the easier option. Quite a few peeps have transplanted these lumps so shouldn't be too difficult to find out
Mick The Cabbie Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Just had a quick flick thru the new copy of PPC magazine. There's a full feature on transplanting these Nissan turbo lumps into other cars. I didn't notice any info on wiring one up tho.. May be worth a look + there may be the odd useful contact listed
