hey

has anyone done this? what needs to be done for the log book, will i need to take the car to the dvla (chelmsford isnt it?) to get it checked over? as it will go down a tax bracket?

Cant phone up dvla as they shut at 5... and i work till 6 :x

or can i insure the car as a 1300, although its 1600 on the logbook ?

oh its also gone from auto to manual, but i doubt thats much of a big deal is it ?

cheers :)

i've had some trouble with them,

i told them i have changed the enigne so you need to charge me more money,

and they want a report etc from the garage that fitted it and a receipt for the engine in question.

engine bought off a man, and i changed the engine on my drive,

so i've given up for now,

With the possibility of a tick box on MOTs for modified stuff (as has been discussed on many car forums lately) which could lead to £400 checks Q plates and all sorts it does look like car modifing days could be numbered.

Tell them fook all because the 1600 is identical to the 1300 so if boys in blue stop you there not gonna know any differant. :D:D

but its got 1600 on the logbook, and a 1300 in it !!:lol:

as for car modifying, what about rally cars and such, they have to have an mot and tax? (im sure)

ill proably get me mate to take it to a mot'er he uses 3/4 times a week, they pritty good mates so finger's x'd they will overlook the lowering blocks

i assume youre doing this to lower your insurance- in my experience i'd say dont bother as they'll usually just start with what the car was originally ie a YB'd rs2000 will be more expensive to insure than an identical yb'd 1300L

as for the logbook just fill out the changes to engine number and capacity and send it off to the dvla you shouldn't need an engineers report if your just changing the capacity and not type of engine

yes all rally cars are taxed and moted just like any other car on the road and 1600 and 1300 engines are different and if the worse happend and ur insurance found out you had lied they will screw you over big time for it

the dvla want engeering reports for any engine cc change now and even more so as yours changing tax groups

lost me on all the above !!!!! the 1.6 is an inch taller than the 1.3 but no would would ever know that. If the DVLC want a report on it just write them a letter telling them your n engineer and done the work yourself, they wont ever check it, but i would just cange the cc on the log book and send it back or not even bother (saves all the hassel). i think they would be more interested in the change from auto to man. Why go down to 1.3 in the 1st place? the saving on insurance wouldnt be that much unless your a young driver anyway.

As for the lowering blocks, well i bet they are not the only mods ie wheels etc

This all seems very hit and miss. sometimes people just fill in the V5, sometimes they have to supply written proof.

Bear in mind there is a new V5 out now (just started issuing them on the 15 Aug), so now would be a good chance to do it. Are you bothered about the number of former keepers? If not, find somebody like your mum to briefly put on the V5. Make no other changes. Then, put it back into your name, and list the differences then.

Don't get me wrong, chances are they will not register them, that's when you contact them and tell them that's how you bought it. Then get a garage (AKA a good desk top publishing programme) and create what they are looking for. That is, a letter saying the car has been inspected, and it has the engine you are saying it has. Job done. You could just cut to the chase (specially if you need to tax the car) and send off the V5 with the letter, saying it wasn't correct when you got it.

Sorry if this sounds dodgy, but if they just let you fill in the V5 like you want to, all their records would be up to date.

It's very easy for some to say you have to this and get that piece of paper, but we have to live in the real world, and if the DVLA won't let you tell the truth, you have to give them no option but believe you. Stupid thing is, the 'proof' is all to easy to get these days, and if you wanted to fraudulently get cheaper road tax, it wouldn't by all accounts be that hard. The secret is never to lie about anything on/in your car to the insurance company....
