JAY PS Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 My Astra 2007 diesel has just been diagonosed with a new turbo being required because the engine goes into limp home on longer journeys .The turbo works fine and car uses no oil and apart from the intermittent engine light and limp home its A1 I fail to believe this and a customers Combo 1.4cdti both require turbos ! I think vauxhall dealer is having a laugh ?
stevepeanut Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 I dont trust big dealers, not saying all are bad but some are our lasses sister has a saxo which was making odd noises, took it into the main dealers and they wanted to replace over £1000 worth of parts we told her to try a local guy who sorts us for things, £20 later and it was sorted, just need some joints greasing
Savvi Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 What diagnostics did you use to get this info ? A very common fault on these is the Egr valve, i've just replace mine at £197, but still cheaper then a turbo. It was ok on short runs but longer ones the light would keep coming on espeacially if i drove at a steady 70 mph on the motorway. I use Op-com which will diagnose that no problem.
rallyesport04 Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 i find it hard to belive the turbo itself is u/s possibly the boost control is up the wall giving a turbo error code or as savvi said the egr valve will mess things up a friend of mine had a missfire on a corsa took it to vaux poo throw a load of parts an labour on it an didnt cure it took it to a local garage spent under £50 an was perfect vaux didnt even want to know when they got asked about some money back
Tom Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 Its amazing how many mis-diagnosed cars i see, a favourite at the moment is people being told they need a new diesel high pressure pump and 9 times out of 10 its just an injector that is required
