hollowaykid Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Has anyone fitted them to their car? im considering fitting them to my mk3 capri because my lights are PANTS! i just seen a video on it and theyre saying that theyre illegal if they got the wrong fitements so i was wondering if the lenses need changing and does anyone know any road legal kits? Cheers
vibrating_Cake Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 not legal but never had any bother with them going with the usual BMW PROJECTOR headlight conversion, and just whacking HID bulbs in but the BMW PROJECTOR headlight conversion may be enough, they are a lot better than std capper lights!
hollowaykid Posted September 16, 2010 Author Report Posted September 16, 2010 o right il speak to an mot center see wether theyd have a problem.
Pipster007 Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 I'm pretty sure Caprifan on here fitted the E30 BMW headlights to his MK3 Capri.
rallyesport04 Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 i put hids in the cossie cos the lights were so bad you couldnt see unless you were on main beam or had the fogs on they made a huge huge differance so i took them off sold the car an now fitted them to a propa car my mk2 rs
Yeomans22 Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 i fitted the headlights from a bmw 5 series. now i can fit HID and it will be legal.
Stiggy Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 i fitted the headlights from a bmw 5 series. now i can fit HID and it will be legal. Not strictly true, HID require self levelling headlights.
bortaf Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 /\/\ yep WHS /\/\ in practise if you have a half decent MOT tester he will let em through as long as they give a beam pattern and are aligned correctly, i had BM projectors in my last Mk3 cortina and have for the TD project as well, wayyy better than standard
Fiesta Steve Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 As above must be self levelling and possibly have either a wash or a wipe or both
hollowaykid Posted September 20, 2010 Author Report Posted September 20, 2010 i might go with the 5 seies lights i like the look of that conversion, how easy/ hard is it?
vibrating_Cake Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 ive made a post somewhere and its stickied, maybe in the mk3 capri part of the forum easy conversion, doesnt take too long neither
Yeomans22 Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 As above must be self levelling and possibly have either a wash or a wipe or both fair enough, thats the problem when people who don't know aboout things try to advise you about it, i've just got standard bulbs in atm, still might do the HID as pleanty on the road seem to fit them to any car they can.
vibrating_Cake Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 as i say, ive had my HID's in the BMW headlights for near enough 2years, and 2MOT's, never once had a problem with them, and my car is a daily driver at 20k+miles a year
hollowaykid Posted September 22, 2010 Author Report Posted September 22, 2010 so what do i have to do to fit them? im having problems findin the post on headlight conversion do i have to make an adaptor plate or can i just take the lenses and reflectors out then slot the bmw ones in? where did you get yours from? cheers.
vibrating_Cake Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=97404 just go to a scrapyard and find a car with the smiley face headlights, theres some detailed pics of what you need in there mine were from an old 3sieres or 5, where the bonnet opened the wrong way (up from the windscreen side) iirc its an E30 or something, i dont really know my bmw's, but just ring around see if any scrappers have any old bmw's in with quad headlights, n jobs a good en http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-E30-Headlight ... 702wt_1137
