bigdaz27 Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 1) fuel octane rating is too low 2) excessive engine temperature 3) excessive compression ratio 4) too much timing advance 5) idle speed too high 6) tight valves or damaged spark plug causing a hot spot 7) spark plugs whose heat range is too high hope this helps

brettp Posted September 23, 2010 Author Report Posted September 23, 2010 was ticking over a bit high?
72mk1escort Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Tick over would be the cause then mate bring it down to about 950 rpm and try that
deltamal Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Always used to be due to poor fuel quality / high oil consumption causing glowing carbon deposits in the head......
