fefu17 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Hi everyone I am from Malta and I own a 1969 mk1 escort and a 1975 mk2 escort, both 1.3. As from next January, LRP will no longer be on sale. From what I read, it seems that fitting hardened valve seats is the only option for safe daily use. With regards to additives, most say they're crap. How much does it roughly cost to do it? Is it a difficult task for an engineer? Can you buy hard valve seats ready made? And If i fit hardened valve seats and run on unleaded, do I have to retard the ignition timing? One another thing is that we get the worst fuel over here, apparently with less than 90 octane Thanks
Fiesta Steve Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I've been running my daily on unleaded (thrashed daily!!) for 5 years with no problems, unless you are going to be doing many thousands of miles (can't see it in Malta ) then I wouldn't even worry about it. I don't even use additives.
fefu17 Posted October 11, 2010 Author Report Posted October 11, 2010 thanks mate, that would be excellent
KJ 1320 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 As Steve said mate run on unleaded you'll be fine but as the fuel on Malta isn't a good quality,I would retard the timing 2-4 degrees to be safe
hollowaykid Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 i just stick abit of lead replacement in every 5 or 6 tanks! it worked out so expensive when i looked at having it down and could see very little benefit!
