I am going to be fitting either a pinto or xe engine into my mk1. Whatever engine i fit im wanting to make a custom loom for the car because i would like to hide all the wires ect in the engine bay.

My question is,is this a hard task to undertake? would i be better getting a pro to do it? any good auto electricians in scotland that are into old escorts??

cheers,auld

I'd never done a complete loom before I did Posse's and we decided to use a hot rod loom from the States. It was as simple as a simple thing  Had the whole lot in in a day and all working the next. All the wires had their destinations written along their length which helped. It came with a mini blade type fuse box with the required relays too

I have to admit that it isn't the neatest job, but I reckon if I'd taken a little extra time it could have looked a bit better

It's called an E-Z wiring loom

i rewired the entire front end of my mk2 escort, im running XE and also hid all the battery/starter cable and alternator wires as well, only visible wire was thew one going to the temp sender on stat housing, i also ran extra wires for spotlamps and an electric fan, all housed in conduit and hidden under the wings, i hate wiring with a passion but i was well chuffed with my results, its more of a patience thing

I am currently in the process of making a complete custom loom for my escort, and to be honest it is not that difficult, just very time consuming! I am running most of the lights, fans and pumps etc off of relays so that I have a central fuse box mounted under the dash, and then pretty much everything comes from that! This way you can do 75% of the work at the dining table in the comfort of your own home!

I got most of my supplies from here http://www.autosparks.co.uk/ and here http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/

Get stuck in I say!!! At least you can say that you have done it and you can route the wires exactly the way you want
