dalmarshall Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Just had my head rebuilt and thought I might as well check inside the bottom end while the engine is out..........................I knew what i was gonna find!! Spun 2 big ends, scored the mains up and the big ends on the rods Bugger, My mechanic reckoned it was the head as the shims were all wrong, I was a bit disheartened to say the least (is disheartened a word ) Anyway, I'm trying to source a crank and rods for a 2.2 lotus HC at the mo and to give me a little motivation I treated the car to a new home and a new set of alloys The unit is a few miles away but its great for working on the car (my old garage had no power) The alloys rub the arches a bit, hopefully i'll get away with rolling the front arches, but i'll deal with that another day. I think i better get the engine rebuilt first before I start playing with that[/img]
SebringRS Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Them rims looks spot on Stick a pinto in it, less to go wrong But nah, still love the look of this car, like the mix of Mexico style and RS2000 decals
GJUK Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 I thought the first picture was of a model car!
D-FENS Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 I thought the first picture was of a model car! So did i !
puddy Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Don't forget a new oil pump as well, I had quite a lot of oil pressure problems with one of my Lotus sunbeams due to a foooked pump. puddy
dalmarshall Posted February 17, 2011 Author Report Posted February 17, 2011 Cheers for the comments guys Sebring - I thought the same as you and starting puting together a pinto but then decided to rebuild the lotus lump as it keeps it a bit different and i like that Puddy - Cheers for the advice 'll do that
dacar Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 I thought the first picture was of a model car! So did i ! So did I think it was a model but a cracking looking car and you know it'll be worthwhile the first time you take it for a spin when the works all done. Mega smile.
SebringRS Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Cheers for the comments guys Sebring - I thought the same as you and starting puting together a pinto but then decided to rebuild the lotus lump as it keeps it a bit different and i like that To be honest I don't blame ya mate Pinto's can get mighty expensive too
Davewrc Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 Can you not just regrind the crank for oversized bearings? when I spun 2 big ends all i that as everything else survived.
dalmarshall Posted February 19, 2011 Author Report Posted February 19, 2011 Its had +20 thou already. You can get +30 bearings but ive been recommended not to go 30 thou (by a mate not a bloke selling a crank!!)
Davewrc Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 I'm not a engine expert but I'd look futher into that. I can't see another 10 thoumaking a difference. I'm sure I've got some 50 thou x-flow bearings in the garage
