stuartp Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 i spent about 6 hours yesterday with the help of the mrs trying to get the carpet into my escort! nearly got there (but it got dark so i'm finishing off tonight) but i'm sure i haven't done everything right and i'm also sure it took me about 5 hours longer than someone who knows what they are doing! anyway, my car had no carpet to compare so i'm appealing for a couple of images / tips from you guys 1) i'd really appreciate a look at the metal trim that goes under the door along either side to hold the carpet edges in as mine doesn't look right at all - it's doing the job but is sticking out at quite an angle 2) do the metal bits that the front seats kind of clip under (on the tunnel) that are there to stop the seat lifting up until you use the lever that moves the little catch in - no idea what this would be called) stay under the carpet or do i cut a slit and have them sticking out? 3) how do the footwell kick panels attach (i ordered some from aldridge but again there were none in the car so i have nothing to compare) and what do i do with the carpet in that area? ta
Fred_Bear Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 Hi I am not going to be any help, but I am about to buy a carpet for my MK2, did you buy a ready cut carpet, if so from who? I thought it would not be too bad to do, wrong!!
stuartp Posted March 8, 2011 Author Report Posted March 8, 2011 It has been a bit of a pain so far but mostly due to my inexperience i reckon mostly getting the stuff to screw / bolt back in again when you can't really see where it goes - i ended up cutting bits of carpet out to fix the seats back in as i spent a good hour getting steadily angrier just trying to get four bolts in! i got the carpet from australia in the end because the only colour i could find in england was black and i fancied brown to match my seats http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MOULDED-CAR-CARPET-FORD-ESCORT-MK1-MK2-/180558811914?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a0a24d30a it is moulded (and actually says mk1 / mk2 so would probably do the job for you just as well) but i didn't find it to be exact - the transmission tunnel shape is much bigger than the one in my car (and mine was an auto so theoretically bigger to start with) so i have chopped the front carpet section in half (it will be covered by my centre console) i have yet to finish mine off properly but it's going to have taken a good day to do in total
stuartp Posted March 17, 2011 Author Report Posted March 17, 2011 got it all in - still not sure on the points above but it's there and i'm reasonably happy with it so far couple more requests though... does anyone have a picture or know where I should mount the washer / wiper foot controlled thing? again mine was never attached and there didn't seem to be any visible holes that match up to it. never poked round in anyone elses footwell to see where it might go and my one mk1 escort owning friend never had one also, any tips on making one or two bits of carpet that aren't quite staying flat to stay flat - with the sound proofing underneath i don't suppose it can be stuck down easily
deltamal Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 They never fit properly! Ive'e bought a cheap one and a "premium quality " one had to trim and beat both to make them fit the Tina!
Big_man Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 i spent a good hour getting steadily angrier just trying to get four bolts in! You wouldn't have it any other way
stuartp Posted March 17, 2011 Author Report Posted March 17, 2011 i spent a good hour getting steadily angrier just trying to get four bolts in! You wouldn't have it any other way true the solution always seems to be to do it less neatly than you'd hoped though
