wmbimp Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 hello all I'm considering an OSF as my next purchase. I fancy a 100e I've messed around with many OSF's in the past but it has been a long time since I have. Back then, the common mod was to fit a pinto and 5 speed but these engines are pretty old and worn now. those mods were easy and could be done very quickly. My question is..... If I aquired a 100e or something similar, what is the best equivalent option today? I do not want to be having things mapped or complicated wiring loom installations with lambda sensor etc. it has to be a similar but modern retro conversion. 100 - 120 bhp is fine! I have read about zetec's and duratecs and so on and would be happy to aquire if they marry up to a box and slot in easy enough with modest electrical work to get going. but are not looking to spend a fortune on the conversion either. my reasons for being specific is that I have a big time consuming project and don't need another so I'm calling upon OSF forums wealth of experience here. your help/wisdom and guidance is most welcome and gratefully received. even if I have to opt for the historical pinto option sincere thanks to all comments Paul
sambo Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Hi Paul, there is plenty of life left in the old Pinto yet mate. Anything else will be a bit of a headache if simplicity is what you want. Even getting a pinto in a 100e would be slightly more complicated than shoving one in an escort as that conversion is just not as popular. You will need to make engine mounts etc.
wmbimp Posted April 18, 2011 Author Report Posted April 18, 2011 would I have to make the mounts? I have no doubts about the pinto but simply thought if I were going to the trouble of fitting one, was there modern alternatives that are more powerful and economical to run. Just opening my eyes to other possibilities and not ignore other options that may be easy also. Having looked on fleebay and see there are brand new crate engine 2.0 zetecs for 600 quid against older worn out pintos you have no idea about, I just pondered over it thats all. Ideally, I would like to sort a conversion for less than 1k doing all the work myself. I hope that does not sound too silly as It has been a while! I
