mk2 sax Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Hey all, Last year my dad purchased a "N" reg mk2 1600 sport which is currently being restored. It was registered in june 1975 so by my reckoning it must be one of the first sports. We were just wondering how rare it is and if anyone knows how early the first mk2 sport were produced?? cheers - Sax
Big_man Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Originals are pretty rare, Mine was registered in 81, must have been one of the last ones made or shop floor demo??
In The Pit Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 MKII Sports were made from January 1975 along with Base, L, GL and Ghia models. Yours is an early one (however I do know of an earlier Sport). N reg MKII's are few and far between. I hope he's going to keep it standard looking outside and in, it would be worth keeping it that way as being an very early Sport it should have chrome door handles, badges and window surrounds. July 1975 saw the launch of the Popular and Popular Plus and the Sport then had the chrome items mentioned above downgraded to the cheaper black items from the Popular/Popular Plus. Should anyone doubt what im saying heres a picture of one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/23946388@N05/5531555819/
Stiggy Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 Brands Hatch used to run a series of 1600 Sports back in 1975. I'll see if I can dig out a few pics, sure I have some somewhere.
