tommy24v Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 right i just pulled the halfshafts on my capri because the bearing dropped it's grease all over the place. so i stuck the shaft in a big bag and went for a long walk around all the local parts suppliers and none of them knew what bearing i need. what doesn't help is that i'm not entirely sure what car the shaft is from! here's the pic anyway; any ideas? i'd like to know what car the shaft is from so it's easier for the local suppliers to look it up but if not can anyone point me in the right direction of a mail order supplier? you can follow the whole saga here if you're interested; http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.c ... ead=105814 i just thought i might be better off with some specific ford knowledge courtesy of OSF thanks
Stiggy Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 That appears to be a standard Capri half shaft bearing. Most bearing suppliers should be able to get them, maybe even Ford still have some. Having had a look at your other thread that may not be a Capri shaft as it's 5 stud, have you no details of what the axle is off of ???
tommy24v Posted June 10, 2011 Author Report Posted June 10, 2011 i've done a bit of research and apparently it's a modified capri shaft. luckily a motor factors in sunderland had a bearing on the shelf so that is sorted. i just have to find out why the diff oil escaped before i put it all back together. see the washers in this picture just above the drip? apparently they're not meant to be there. am i right in thinking they could allow enough play for the oil to escape? if that's the case the original bearing might be alright as according to the bloke i bought the car from he'd done both rear bearings a few weeks ago. or would a diff oil bath ruin the bearing? it was covered in grease when i took it out and i got the impression that the grease was meant to be on the inside. sorry for all the daft questions i've never had a car in bits before!
Stiggy Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 Nope washers are not meant to be there in standard form. Wonder why they were fitted ?? Do you know why the used 5 stud shafts ??
tommy24v Posted June 10, 2011 Author Report Posted June 10, 2011 Do you know why the used 5 stud shafts ?? not sure but i like the way it looks when it's all nailed together!
w p e Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 look like cortina p100 sharfts and probley front stub axles?. done the same in reverse some years ago
Admin Vista Posted June 10, 2011 Admin Report Posted June 10, 2011 Look like merc rims, so same as Passat. Granada Scorpio rims and that's why he'll have used those shafts, so he could fit those wheels.
