right i just pulled the halfshafts on my capri because the bearing dropped it's grease all over the place. so i stuck the shaft in a big bag and went for a long walk around all the local parts suppliers and none of them knew what bearing i need. what doesn't help is that i'm not entirely sure what car the shaft is from!

here's the pic anyway;

any ideas? i'd like to know what car the shaft is from so it's easier for the local suppliers to look it up but if not can anyone point me in the right direction of a mail order supplier?

you can follow the whole saga here if you're interested;

i just thought i might be better off with some specific ford knowledge courtesy of OSF

thanks

That appears to be a standard Capri half shaft bearing.

Most bearing suppliers should be able to get them, maybe even Ford still have some.

Having had a look at your other thread that may not be a Capri shaft as it's 5 stud, have you no details of what the axle is off of ???

i've done a bit of research and apparently it's a modified capri shaft. luckily a motor factors in sunderland had a bearing on the shelf so that is sorted. i just have to find out why the diff oil escaped before i put it all back together.

see the washers in this picture just above the drip?

apparently they're not meant to be there. am i right in thinking they could allow enough play for the oil to escape? if that's the case the original bearing might be alright as according to the bloke i bought the car from he'd done both rear bearings a few weeks ago. or would a diff oil bath ruin the bearing? it was covered in grease when i took it out and i got the impression that the grease was meant to be on the inside.

sorry for all the daft questions i've never had a car in bits before!

Nope washers are not meant to be there in standard form.

Wonder why they were fitted ??

Do you know why the used 5 stud shafts ??
