fezza Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 ...........what the spade connector is for on a pinto starter motor, the one currently on the car has the large battery live, the smaller 8mm terminal and a spade connector but the new one only has the battery live and the 8mm terminal,no spade connection ?? Anyone ??
radar tech Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 put a multimeter on the spade and see what it does when cranking etc. more than likeley it will just be a splice off of the cranking wire
Col-ashtonmobile Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 on a standard starter the spade is the solenoid trigger wire off the ignition switch , the 8 mm thread is an 11 volt pick up for when running points , if you,ve got a high torque starter change the spade to an eyelet terminal and bolt that to the small thread , and disregard the other wire if your presumably running electronic ignition , if your not sure ring me
fezza Posted June 25, 2011 Author Report Posted June 25, 2011 Cheers for the reply radar tech on a standard starter the spade is the solenoid trigger wire off the ignition switch , the 8 mm thread is an 11 volt pick up for when running points , if you,ve got a high torque starter change the spade to an eyelet terminal and bolt that to the small thread , and disregard the other wire if your presumably running electronic ignition , if your not sure ring me Thats the info i was after, cheers Colin Im not running a hight torque starter but the replacment doesn't have the spade so im assuming its the same procedure mentioned above with putting a eyelet on the spade wire and moving it onto the 8mm thread,im running electronic ign so i'll bin the other wire
