spud-rs2k123 Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 What's everyone's thoughs on a welded diff I've never done or drove with one but was thinking of doing one just to see but wanted to know how safe it was before I did cheers
msymes Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 Hey mate My understanding is that normal driving with a welded diff tends to make the car understeer dramatically or oversteer crazily there is no happy medium.... hahha As for safety i guess it really depends on how good you are with a welder I have also heard of some people creating a sort of detroit locker by only welding some of the planet gear teeth or something but not sure on that one... Apparently it reduces the understeering but can't say for sure as i have never actually seen it... only heard rumours of it being done hahaha And feel free to correct me if I'm wrong with any of this... its all good for my learning
msymes Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 Found this... may be useful viewtopic.php?f=65&t=125414
herb capri Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 fun on dirt had on the road, almost impossible to drive on the road without good power to back it up. mike
FBF Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 Karen had hers welded a few months ago, she has now stopped using it on the road as it skips round corners, its cringeworthy even when following it from behind. Do it for 1/4mile but for a road car its lsd or nothing for my money
