oliwally Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 Given the choice which would you do? I have acccess to a cheap thick tubed atlas, just needing uprated shafts and a slipper. Has no spring saddles just link diamonds waiting to be welded into final position. What would you use on a pinto'd standard arched car using 175/50 tyres? I'm at that stage of last few welding jobs and begin prep for paint? Do I link it and use the atlas? Use atlas on leaves or just strengthen English and flog the atlas?
frankthefencer Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 I am in the same boat too but mine is an arched car.I am deliberating between an english or atlas but mine is going to be turreted.Mine is primarily a fast road car so is their a real everyday advantage???
rallyesport04 Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 for a pinto i would keep the english axle the lsd is far cheaper for a start an no mods are needed unless your planning to put in some big torque then atlas is the way or on the other hand if your bored then fit a 6 link bit overkill tho if your going as far as fitting turrets you might as well go the whole hog a fit a 5 or 6 link kit
105Ian Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 If you have the chance of a good Atlas would say go with the Atlas as if you ever want to use slicks on the rear and start getting some grip you will be able to use all the power without the fear of breaking something . Plus if you ever decide to go down the cossie route you are all set to go
oliwally Posted November 28, 2011 Author Report Posted November 28, 2011 Ok,do if I go atlas do I weld on spring saddles or link and turrets?
sambo Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 If your not fitting slicks and doing track or drag racing then stick with the English mate, its lighter, the parts are cheaper and you can change the final drive in 20 mins. An atlas, it needs to be built properly so you cant just swap CWP's when you fancy. If you are gonna upgrade power or want the piece of mind of a stronger axle, then stick with the atlas. if you do decide to go English and want to sell the Atlas, i may be interested!.... is it shortened to 48.5" ?
