sgallywag Posted December 5, 2011 Report Posted December 5, 2011 allo ive tried the search bar but cant find anything on converting my auto box to a type 9. i have mk2 escort 1.6 ghia auto and i want to convert it to a type 9 what is needed for this cheers boys...
moredoorAsh Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 You'll need at least Fly wheel, Clutch(190mm 23splined friction plate),Pressure plate from a X-flow, Pedal box with clutch pedal, clutch cable, gearbox mount, propshaft and i think a longer speedo cable. You'll also need to move the lever hole back on the transmission tunnel. And theres prob more like bolts for mounting flywheel to crank and clutch to flywheel etc...
sgallywag Posted December 6, 2011 Author Report Posted December 6, 2011 what clutch and flywheel do i need and can i use the xflow starter with a type 9 bell housing. cheers mate great help
moredoorAsh Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 As your staying x-flow engine you'll need a x-flow flywheel. Clutch friction plate from a 1.6 pinto(mk5 cortina) Clutch pressure plate from a x-flow. I don't think you can get a clutch kit that will bolt straight in as the splines in the type9 and type2(x-flow box 4-speed) have different amounts of teeth. Someone else will hopefully confirm this... As far as i know the starter will work with the type9 bell housing.
cjay2004 Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 u starter motor is very much dependant on what flywheel ur gonna fit? as pre ingaged xflow flywheels a quite rare i think? also u wont need a propshaft the one u have will fit fine.. clutch plate needs to be the 23spline early sierra type.7.5" slso u`ll need to drill a hole in bulkhead + a wee bit of tube for the clutch cable..
sgallywag Posted December 6, 2011 Author Report Posted December 6, 2011 cheers guys got the info i need i think

sgallywag Posted December 7, 2011 Author Report Posted December 7, 2011 shall i use a crossflow flywheel then aslong as it is the same tooth as the clutch.

atomic punk Posted December 11, 2011 Report Posted December 11, 2011 I did a how to guide on this a few years ago when I did mine.. viewtopic.php?f=44&t=107783 The clutch you need is a Sierra 1600 friction plate and a crossflow cover. If you go for a manual crossflow flywheel you'll need to get an inertia starter and a seperate solenoid. I have a spare flywheel and the clutch bits (clutch done about 10k)if you need them drop me a pm.
nikmag2 Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 I done this conversion last year, heres a link to the irish escort club, i had already changed the engine and auto box for another engine an manual gearbox because automatic's suck! http://z7.invisionfree.com/CEOCI/index. ... c=9123&hl=
