  1. Got as far as getting a zetec into the mk2, but its kinda stalled at the moment. We had a baby boy a few months ago which is great but it does mean that I have no spare money or time any more. Vaguely considering selling up and buying something that doesnt need any work, but cant bring myself to do it! Hows you anyway? Looks like you saw the light & kept it then
  2. Hey Clive, long time no see, Sorry to be seeing this move on, always liked the look of this car....
  3. My two penneth, I stopped posting on here shortly after getting my Cortina mk5 - although it was 'osf' , it didnt seem to fit in so well as it was too much like the newer fords . So I went over to 'Cortina80' for a while. Then I got my XR3 and now use the mk3 Escort forums, cos I'd rather talk to like minded people who are just as enthusiastic about them than have it slagged off (generally by people who have never even driven one ) Having said that I still have a mk2 Escort and when I am looking for inspiration I will come on here and nose through the resto section, and if and when I get the enthusiasm to restore it then I will start posting again. Even if you did 'allow' the later fords on here, doubt their owners would be made to feel very welcome so on balance it is best left as is.
  4. I did a how to guide on this a few years ago when I did mine.. viewtopic.php?f=44&t=107783 The clutch you need is a Sierra 1600 friction plate and a crossflow cover. If you go for a manual crossflow flywheel you'll need to get an inertia starter and a seperate solenoid. I have a spare flywheel and the clutch bits (clutch done about 10k)if you need them drop me a pm.
  5. I only wish I had the space, time and money to save this car.....
  6. Love how you've lowered the swage line on the front wings... subtle
  7. I like the sound of that cheap quick and easy thanks for that
  8. Did anyone actually survive any of those??
  9. Had today off to weld on my new rear panel on the Escort. Spent weeks prepping it so should have gone swimmingly but no.... Firstly the welder decides not to lay the welds properly (my fault wire speed too high) turn the wire speed down still not penetrating... turns out the weld thru primer isnt that weld thru. Clean down to bare metal and all was good again. Once I'd ran out of gas I decided to trial fit the boot catch, got one bolt in fine, then on the other one the captive nut on the rear panel broke off... oh c*ck! Anyone got any ideas how I can fix that one without cutting apart the nice new panel??!
  10. Dont deny that a lot of work has gone in and the job is quality.. but to me, the overall look.....
  11. Usually a good show, this one - dont have anything roadworthy to go in at the mo, but I may pop up for a nose, what date is it?
  12. Came out really well, well chuffed. Apparently the scratches are deep but since its been done you wouldnt notice them, the bonnets like a mirror! so thanks to Sean! Was that your tina I spotted outside??

    why.....

Why oh why would you put a fiat brava front end on a fifties classic http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-Victor-FB-Estate-1964-Hot-Rod-Modified-/280640100402?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4157741832
  14. That sir, is an offer that cant be refused - you will have pm shortly
  15. Thanks sebring, I'll give that a try but was rather hoping not to have to invest in an electric mop.... I'll certainly be 'advising' next time the bucket and shampoo come out!
  16. The mrs this afternoon decided it would be a good idea to wash her fiesta... with a scouring pad Can anyone recommend a polish or cutting compound that I can use to polish out the fine scratches that will a) do a reasonable job and not take up too much of the time I would otherwise have been spending on the mk2 thanks in advance
  17. P reg will have a PATS ecu (key with the little red chip in) and may also have an alarm, will be internal EDIS I think If you keep the key and transceiver and the associated wiring it should work OK. Is it an 1800 or 2000? Do you know what the ECU code is?
  18. I assumes you mean standard Ford Efi? I'm about to do this and tbh its a bit of a mare to get your head around unless you are happy with wiring. I'm going to be using the engine loom from a 1996 Escort but thats only because it came with my engine. If you're going for a 2.0 Zetec, the best loom to go for is a pre 1994/5 2.0 mondeo i.e EEC IV, no PATS/external PATS (which can be bypassed) and external EDIS (i.e ignition controlled seperately from fuel). From memory the ECU needed is coded 'DEEP' but these are getting rare now. If you go post 95 you need the transceiver, ECU and red key from the same vehicle or it will never work. I would avoid EECV as too complex, but I don't know when they came in. Best thing to do is get the whole donor car complete and pull the engine, ecu and all the looms out - best to have too much than have too little. HTH
  19. Seems a shame, how come they will just get left??
  20. Might be going to Southampton on Monday afternoon.. will know for sure tomorrow and will let u klnow if I do
  21. Went down to the lockup to check on the mk2 yesterday, didnt realise it had been so long since I was last down there... the things only started to grow mould I used to get frustrated by people just leaving cars to rot but now I'm turning into one of them Anyway, had a bit of a poke round, need a new rear panel and an inner sill at the very least, and I've set myself a target to get it MOT worthy before the clocks go forward.
  22. looks nice and solid, good buy Jason, should look sweet in purple
  23. This must be the slowest project in the world.... Well over the last few months the front end has been replaced with 2.8 Billies, Superflex bushes and new ball joints all round. The back end has benefited from lowering blocks too.. the front springs are standard 2.8 until I sort an exhaust out.....but for the moment it will look a bit hunched down at the back. And the offending exhaust...
