aden Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 how on earth do u adjust valve geometry on a pinto head? the head we are gonna be using has got group 1 size stainless inlet and exhaust valves, but i am trying to fit a newmans ph1 cam in and it doesnt want to sit right on the exhaust valves? it appears that the valve stems are aprrox 2mm too short? if i put a feeler guage between the rocker and the top of the valve then it all works fine, i have both standard rockers and the long reach jobbies and its shite on either of them to be honest, only way i can see is longer valves, which i cant find anywhere, cut the valve seats deeper or lash caps of some sort on the top of the valve? it also bottoms the valve spring out but if i shim it 2mm it doesnt im well confused
fezza Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 Cant offer any help or advise im afriad but know how important it is to get it right,i steered well clear of my head and let the boys at HT build it from scratch, this way i knew it was right
Billy_smith Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 there is a video on you tube that shows you how to set up a pinto head. but as previously said i would give it to a specialist to ensure i was getting maximum lift i found this useful when i was looking at putting mine together, got some interesting bits to ber in mind http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/PINTO.htm
john_3.0s Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 was it originally a 1.6 or 2.0 head?

escort21 Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 You need to use a gauge, shows you how to make it in one of the pinto tuning books(des hammell) you need to get the valve the correct length using a lathe or valve grinder and use lash caps until the gauge fits correctly, each lash cap will be slightly different It also depends on what cam you are using, reground cams have a smaller base circle which also messes up valve geometry, new blanks are the best ones to use I bought a bvh changed the cam and sorted the valve length and made up lash caps and it went like fook well worth it
