what are peoples opinions of painting under the car, body colour or black? I am going to prime it them stone chip but then wondered what others think looks best? Its a mk1 escort btw and i`m not building a show winner or anything, just a solid useable car.

My car was painted the same colour under it. Half of me kind of wishes that it had a thick slab of underseal to keep it rust free but I guess if I ever sell it, it looks nice.

 

The next one I build won't be quite to this standard and more of a road slag kind of build :)

thats what i was sort of thinking, stone chip then loads of waxoyl to stop the rust. Its not going to be anywhere near as nice as yours gjuk i also live up miles of rough country roads so will also get very dirty .

Use and abuse then.

 

Soon as mines on the road I will be driving it how it was meant to. Paint or not.

 

I would go with the underseal looks, take photos before you do it to show the good shell in case you sell it yeah.

i have not long done mine, used POR15 has a good reputation, no need to prime can be painted direct. went on with purpose, and its meant to be resistant to pretty much eveything. they use it on a lot of marine applications.

 

there are a few colours avalible i went for black. looks smart

i personally used por15 on my car only have it on running gear and suspension now though as i did the whole car with it but wasnt that impressed so took it all off again! i then used red oxide primer and then painted the underside with black smoothright! looks good to me and is made to last! its all shown in pics in my resto thread if ur interested!
